My favorite thing about being a chef is that every day, you challenge yourself to take raw ingredients and craft something that will excite and delight others.

When I’m not cooking, I keep busy with my son's baseball schedule, two dogs, a garden, going to the gym, golfing, and an occasional movie.
So many great things come to mind as highlights of my career, but in my 20's I spent a summer bicycling and eating my way across Europe. It was an informative and inspiring experience that has really set the tone for everything that has come since.
I wanted to be an architect or a jet pilot when I was a kid.
My first food memory is of grandmother sending my brother and me out to pick mulberries, which can't be done without getting your hands completely stained with their dark juice. The next day, she served us pancakes topped with the most amazing jam made from those berries.
